Math Games: Fun Practice for Kids, Students and Adults

Practice by grade, master times tables and math facts, or challenge friends to a live math battle — in your browser and in the free MathIt app.

Every game and drill below is built around the same idea: short, focused rounds that make math practice feel like play. Pick a grade or topic to start, try the 60-second drill right on the page, and when you want streaks, adaptive levels and live multiplayer, the MathIt app takes it from there.

Why math games work

Most kids don't struggle with math because it's too hard — they struggle because plain drills are boring and stressful. Games flip that: a 60-second round with a score to beat turns the same multiplication facts into something kids ask to do again. Short, fast rounds also match how fact fluency is actually built: frequent retrieval practice in small doses beats long worksheet sessions.

MathIt is built entirely around that idea. Solo drills sharpen speed on one skill at a time — addition and subtraction facts for early grades, times tables from 3rd grade, mixed mental math beyond that. Adaptive difficulty keeps questions right at the edge of what a player can do, so practice never feels either trivial or hopeless.

Play together, not just alone

The fastest way to make a child care about math facts is to let them race a sibling, a parent, or a classmate. In the MathIt app, 2–5 players join a private room with a code and answer the same questions live — first correct answer scores. Teachers use it for whole-class warm-ups; families use it as an after-dinner game that happens to be multiplication practice.

Everything on this page is free: playable browser games straight from the app, browser drills on every hub page, printable worksheets for offline practice, and the core MathIt app on iOS and Android. Pick a grade or topic below to start.

Getting better at mixed arithmetic

Mixed practice is harder than it looks, and usefully so. When every question is addition, a child can switch off and apply one procedure; when the operation changes each round, they have to read the problem first. That reading step is exactly what breaks down in word problems and on tests, so drilling it deliberately is worth the extra difficulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is mixed practice better than practising one operation at a time?
Both have a use. Practising one operation builds the facts; mixing them builds the habit of reading the problem before answering, which is what breaks down in word problems and on tests. Use single-operation practice to fix a gap and mixed practice to keep it.
