Whole-class math practice

Group rounds solve a problem individual practice cannot: engagement across a wide ability range at the same moment. Everyone answers the same question at the same time, and because scoring rewards the first two correct answers rather than only the fastest, more of the room stays in the game past the opening seconds.

Is mixed practice better than practising one operation at a time?
Both have a use. Practising one operation builds the facts; mixing them builds the habit of reading the problem before answering, which is what breaks down in word problems and on tests. Use single-operation practice to fix a gap and mixed practice to keep it.
