How to play & why it works

A grid of numbers, one instruction: tap every multiple of 6 (or 4, or 7…), then hit Check. Miss one or tap a non-multiple and the round lets you fix it — the selection is only right when it is exactly right.

Recognizing multiples is a different skill from producing them. Reciting 6, 12, 18 is easy; deciding quickly whether 42 is in the six family is what long division, fraction simplification and factoring actually demand. The multi-select format drills recognition directly.

Two tools to lean on: skip-count up to the neighborhood of the number, and divisibility habits (multiples of 6 must be even and digit-sum divisible by 3). The near-miss numbers in each grid are chosen to punish guessing — that is where the learning happens.

Selecting every multiple in a grid trains something a single-answer drill cannot: systematic checking. A child has to test each number rather than stop at the first one that looks right, and missing one counts as wrong — which is exactly the discipline that later makes factoring and simplifying fractions reliable.

Divisibility shortcuts make it fast. Even numbers for 2, digit-sums divisible by 3 for 3, last two digits for 4, ends in 0 or 5 for 5. Children who learn a couple of these stop testing every number by division and start recognising them.

What is a multiple?

A number you reach by counting in steps of another: the multiples of 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24 and so on. Every multiple of 6 divides by 6 exactly.

What is the difference between a multiple and a factor?

Factors go into a number; multiples come out of it. 4 is a factor of 12, and 12 is a multiple of 4 — the same relationship viewed from either end.

How can you spot multiples of 3 quickly?

Add the digits. If the total divides by 3, so does the number — 471 gives 4 + 7 + 1 = 12, so 471 is a multiple of 3. It works for any size of number.
