How to play & why it works
Answer division facts — 36 ÷ 6, 45 ÷ 9, 72 ÷ 8 — on a number pad, one fact per round. The drill draws from the same fact range as the multiplication tables, because that is exactly what division facts are: times tables read backwards.
Division is where fact fluency starts to really pay off. Long division, fractions, and ratio work all assume the facts are instant; a learner who has to reconstruct 42 ÷ 7 from skip-counting stalls on every step of a bigger problem.
The strategy this game rehearses is think-multiplication: for 42 ÷ 7, ask "7 times what makes 42?". If the times tables are solid, division facts come almost free — and this drill exposes exactly which families need another pass.

Division facts are not a separate body of knowledge — they are the times tables read backwards. A child who knows 8 × 7 = 56 already knows 56 ÷ 7, provided they have been shown that those are the same fact. Where the tables are shaky, division exposes it immediately, which makes this drill a useful diagnostic.
Remainders are deliberately left out here. Mixing them in while recall is still forming means a child is learning two things at once and mastering neither. Clean facts first, remainders once the facts are automatic.

Should children learn division facts before or after times tables?
After, and not by much. Introduce division facts as soon as a table is secure — practising 7 × 8 and 56 ÷ 7 together reinforces both, whereas leaving division until every table is finished wastes the connection.
What is the 'think multiplication' strategy?
You answer a division question by asking a multiplication one. For 42 ÷ 6, think "6 times what is 42?" rather than trying to share 42 out. It converts a hard operation into a fact you already know.
Do these rounds include division with remainders?
