Fitting fact practice into a homeschool day

Homeschooling removes the timetable that normally guarantees daily arithmetic practice, and fact fluency is the thing most likely to quietly slip as a result. A fixed short slot works better than fitting it in where there is room — and having both browser drills and printable worksheets means screen-free days do not become gaps.

Three-digit addition adds a second carry, and that is where it breaks — the tens carry is usually handled and the hundreds carry is usually dropped. This is also the grade to start estimating first: knowing that 380 + 290 should land near 670 turns a wrong answer into something visible rather than something marked later.

How do I know which level to practise at?
Work from what a child can answer without counting. If facts within 20 still need counting on, that is the level, regardless of the grade label on the curriculum. The grade hubs here list what each year normally targets.
How can I help my child get faster at addition?
Target the strategies rather than the sums. Make-a-ten and near-doubles cover most of the facts children find hard, and both depend on knowing number bonds to 10 instantly. Short daily practice beats long sessions — recall is built by frequency.
